Revised School Timings Announced for Winter in Kashmir
Srinagar, October 20, 2024 — The Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, has announced new winter timings for all schools in the Kashmir division, effective November 1, 2024, as temperatures continue to dip throughout the region. The changes are intended to provide comfort to students and staff during the colder months and follow the long-standing practice of adjusting school hours to accommodate seasonal changes.
In an official communication to the Principal Secretary, School Education Department, the Directorate has outlined the new school hours as follows:
- For schools within Srinagar city limits: Classes will start at 10:00 am and end at 3:00 pm.
- For schools outside Srinagar Municipal limits, which includes other areas of the Kashmir district: Schools will operate from 10:30 am until 3:30 pm.
These changes will apply to both public and private schools, ensuring uniformity across educational institutions in the valley. DSEK has been requested to issue necessary guidelines for implementing these revised hours in all schools under its jurisdiction.
According to officials, the change in school hours is in response to the challenges of cold mornings and short afternoons, which make early attendance uncomfortable and unsafe for students, especially in non-urban areas where morning temperatures plummet.
