Weather Department Forecasts Rain and Snow Across J&K
Srinagar, Nov 13: After a long dry spell, Jammu and Kashmir is set to experience a three-day period of light rain and snow starting tomorrow. The weather department has forecasted light rain and snowfall for the region through November 16.
The dry conditions, which lasted for 50 days, ended on Monday. Snow fell in the higher areas like Sadhna Top, Razdan Pass, Sinthan Top, and Gulmarg Phase-II. Meanwhile, light rain affected the plains.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather improved, with some areas of Kashmir seeing brief sunshine. However, the wet spell is expected to return on Thursday.
According to the Meteorological Department, light rain and snow are expected in several areas of Kashmir and parts of Jammu on Thursday and Friday, November 14 and 15.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, stated that light rain and snow will continue on Saturday, November 16, at scattered locations across J&K.
From November 17 to 23, the weather is predicted to be dry across Jammu and Kashmir.
The MeT Department has issued an advisory for tourists and travelers. It suggests planning travel carefully during the nights of November 14 and 15 due to potential weather disruptions.
The advisory also warns of temporary disruptions to surface transportation, especially on roads like Zojila, Razdan Pass, Sadhna Pass, Sinthan Top, and Mughal Road. These roads could experience light snowfall on November 15.
The fresh snowfall has brought relief after the dry spell, which had caused the water levels in rivers like the Jhelum to drop significantly. This had affected water supply across Kashmir.
