Heavy Rain, Flash Floods Expected in J&K: Weather Advisory Issued
Srinagar, 02 September: The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a weather advisory for Jammu & Kashmir, forecasting a mix of weather conditions over the coming days, starting from 2nd September 2024.
2nd-3rd September: The region will experience generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected in most areas. Residents are urged to be prepared for wet conditions.
4th-5th September: A brief spell of dry weather is expected, providing a temporary break from the rains.
6th-7th September: Another round of brief rain spells is anticipated at isolated to scattered locations, potentially affecting some areas.
8th-13th September: Predominantly dry weather is expected throughout this period, although brief showers may occur in isolated spots.
Advisory Issued:
The Meteorological Centre has warned of possible heavy rainfall on 2nd and 3rd September, which could lead to flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas across the region. Residents, especially those in flood-prone or mountainous areas, are advised to remain vigilant.
The advisory also highlights the risk of rising water levels in local nallas (streams) and flood channels, which may result in waterlogging in low-lying areas. Additionally, there is a possibility of light snowfall over higher reaches, which could affect travel and outdoor activities, particularly for trekkers and tourists.
Precautionary Measures:
Trekkers and tourists are strongly advised to plan their activities with the weather forecast in mind. Caution is advised, particularly in areas prone to flash floods and landslides.
